| The Knoxville
Songwriters Association is a working group of songwriters dedicated to
creating hits -- top-selling popular songs in a variety of musical
genres.
This not-for-profit group is based in Knoxville, Tennessee. It's the "other" music mecca in the state, located at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains and a short drive from the heavily-attended entertainment and performance centers at Pigeon Forge. It's a musical crossroads, influenced by the latest Nashville, Los Angeles and New York have to offer, its own deep-rooted heritage of indigenous bluegrass, country, and rockabilly, as well as the progressive rock, pop and jazz created at home in Knoxville and throughout the Southeast. Regardless of the musical flavor, the association is focused on working with the abundance of local songwriting talent -- both professional and amateur -- to develop highly-marketable popular music product for themselves, new performers and groups, and established acts nationwide. The group meets every Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM at the historic Candy Factory in downtown Knoxville for a roundtable of information exchange, networking, and song and lyric evaluation. The emphasis is on "sellability," appeal to the widest possible audience. It's often said in the group that even a great song might not be a saleable song. So writers are encouraged to create songs with the catchiest melodies and the clearest, cleverest lyrics, with appeal to both the heart and the head. The group also offers participants an opportunity to network and make the most of regional music resources. For more information, please call: (865) 673-4778 |
