Alachua County Medical Alliance Membership Information

History

History The Woman's Auxiliary to the Florida Medical Association was organized in Alachua County on May 5, 1926 with Mrs. Wilburn Lassiter of Gainesville serving as the first President. By the end of that year, the Auxiliary had grown to include four counties: Alachua, Hillsborough, Palm Beach and Dade. The original bylaws were adopted in 1928, with 199 members on the rolls.

Alachua County was the founding county of the Florida Medical Alliance and continues to be a volunteer organization committed to health, education, wellness, and community service. We have been serving Alachua County for 75 years.

Membership

To be eligible for membership in the Alachua County Medical Alliance an individual must be the spouse of a physician eligible for membership in the Alachua County Medical Society. You may also be the widow or widower of a physician who was eligible for membership or a spouse of a resident or medical Student or fellow.

There are 3 classifications of Membership Classification.

Life member is a member who has held a membership for 35 years. Life members pay no county dues only State($30) and National Dues ($25).

Active member is a member who spouse or widow/widower of a physician is eligible for membership in the Alachua County Medical Society.

Active members pay county dues of $20., State Dues of $30 and National Dues of $25.

A Resident Physician Spouse member or Student member shall be the spouse of a resident or medical student who is eligible for membership in the Alachua County Medical Society. Resident or Student spouses pay dues at a reduced rate.

Benefits of Membership

The alliance is a not only a great way to meet people in the medical community but also a way to support the community. The Alliance works to promote healthy lifestyles for all people in the community through education and supporting health related charitable donations.

Monthly meetings

The monthly meetings provide an opportunity to visit with other members and conduct Alliance business. To accommodate members' busy schedules, the Alliance has provided a variety of day and evening meetings. Meets are typically held at members homes, restaurants, and places of interest. The alliance also conducts some joint meetings with the medical society, giving you a chance to enjoy an evening with your spouse.

Alliance members may now attend ACMS dinner meetings at no cost.

Quarterly newsletter

As an alliance member you will receive a quarterly newsletter letting you know of upcoming events, recipes, and other news items. The newsletter also provides you with the details of Alliance activities.

Directory

Each fall, you will receive a directory of Alliance members.

This information is available only to Alliance and Medical Society members.
