Have you ever wondered what it means to be 3rd cousin twice removed?
The term "removed" is not used as long as the cousins referred to are in the same generation. "Removed" only applies to how cousins are related to other cousins, and not anyone else. A first cousin is a first cousin no matter how many times removed.
If cousins are a generation apart then the term "once removed" is used. If cousins are two generations apart then the term "twice removed" is used.
