Something we must understand at the very beginning
of our endeavors to journey by spirit is that each person's path
is unique to self. As we set out to explore the spirit, we cannot
determine the success of this journey upon the experiences of
another person. We each learn personal and individual lessons
as we travel through this life. So it is with spirit in its journey.

One problem that many people have in their learning
experience while browsing books about the topics of spirit, astral
travel, and out-of-body experience is the tendency to get a little
off track in thinking there are set standards to follow. Confusion
and obstacles can develop when applying someone else's techniques
and labels to personal spiritual experience. This sometimes results
in a physical or emotional experience rather than a spiritual
one. However, it is a good idea to read everything possible, if
the desire is there, while keeping in mind that technicalities
can complicate matters of even simple things. If the technicalities
of technique and description hinder rather than assist in spiritual
development, it may be wise to investigate other means of instruction
that are more comfortable or personable.
Language is limited in effectively describing
the profoundness of experiences beyond. It is possible for newly
created terms and words to present themselves within material
compiled on these topics. These new terms can cause one to spend
many months searching, to no avail, for the perfect technique
to achieve the journey of spirit by will. Unfortunately, various
things throughout researched material may not coincide with personal
experience specifically. Repeated failure to achieve what one
initially set out to accomplish may result from this conflicting
research.
Exposure to very technical views of the spirit
reveals that all levels of spirituality varies and is completely
personal and individually specific. The journey is different for
each person, yet with very similar qualities pertaining to the
overall experience. What one person describes from their experiences
may occur for some people, but may never occur for others. One
outstanding quality of the experience is the many common traits
shared universally, but there are no set rules or parameters governing
the process beyond intention and the natural ability to travel
by spirit.
Awareness that possibilities are infinite and
inconstant eliminates a great barrier to conscious spirit journey.
When a person visits a level of existence similar to one visited
by another it does not necessarily mean that the person visited
the same level. When someone reaches a level of consciousness
and then creates a descriptive label, it does not make the label
a rule or standard that applies to everyone's level of being.
God's variables are infinite, unlimited, and without prejudice
or governing restrictions.
In view of the many ways in which these experiences
may transpire while journeying by spirit, combined with the difficulty
of describing events, literature on the topic can sometimes lend
to the complication of simplicity. This is not an indication that
one should not research and explore as much as possible. The technical
semantics of the experience may be exactly what one needs. This
is especially true for those frequently experiencing spontaneous
higher levels of awareness, and/or full-blown kundalini awakening.
While developing personal views and techniques, a thorough understanding
and overview from different perspectives is very beneficial to
spiritual growth. Developing a technique that is personal and
individual, while researching information for guidance purposes,
is ultimately a good course of action. The results of developing
a personal technique will be successful, fully conscious spirit
journeys more frequently than not.
The technique used, and the experience on the
astral planes, depend greatly on the individual's physical and
mental makeup, as well as their emotional state-of-being. Additionally,
a person's attitude and moral value plays a major role in their
personal spiritual awakening. It is for this reason that any technique
be positive, relaxing, and comfortable. Meditation and prayer
are greatly helpful in achieving a personal comfort zone. Most
people do this nightly as they try to fall asleep. The key is
in maintaining a state of awareness that the physical body is
a vehicle of the infinite spirit.
Meditation and relaxation does not have to be
ritualized or mystical. It is always beneficial to have a relaxed
state-of-mind whether a spiritual occurrence happens or not. For
instance, when insightful experience does not occur during meditation
for spiritual purposes, benefits still come into play. This relaxation
and meditation may be the only thing required by the body and
spirit at that particular time. It also helps to know that one
receives only what one really needs, and only what they are ready
to experience, when the spirit is ready. This is something one
cannot rush with technique and practice.
Every person on the face of the earth experiences
the journey of spirit on a regular basis. When beginning to perceive
dreams as actual memories of one's spirit, this awareness and
transformation of belief systems begins to take place. Those who
feel they do not travel in this way simply are not recalling the
experience, or they are ignoring the messages revealed during
sleep. Often the false awakening brings about the astounding awareness
that there is something more going on during sleep.
