Newborn -3 Months 11/09/00 - Spekky's first doctor's visit.  Like all newborns, he's lost a few ounces, weighing in at 6lbs. 12oz.  He also got his 1st hepatitis shot and, boy, did he cry! 12/14/00 - At his one month checkup, Spekky weighs 10 lbs. 9oz., and he's 21.5" long.  He was very brave for his 2nd hepatitis shot--he only cried for a short while. 01/11/01 - Yay! Spekky slept 8 hours through the night last night. He has been sleeping 51/2 - 61/2 hours for the last couple of weeks and now he's sleeping more than we are!  He's also grabbing rattles, shirts, etc. knowingly.  Sometimes we'll catch him tapping his fingers on the mouse pad, on our arm or hand, as if playing a piano.  He also loves music... very soothing for him. 01/16/00 - Our sweet, smiling boy showed off his gummy grin to the doctor today.  He was very playful until he had to get his shots.  Our hearts were breaking through all 5 shots: hepatitis, polio, pneumococcal, DPT, and Hib.  Our big boy is now 12lbs. 8oz. and 23in. long.  Yay Spekky! 02/06/01 - We had another doctor's visit.  Spekky now weighs 13lbs. 8oz. He's doing fine and is in perfect health. We also went to see a surgeon about his webbed feet. In case you didn't know, his pinky toe and the next toe over on his left foot have a little bit of skin attached. The surgeon said it wouldn't be a hindrance to his learning to walk, and it would be more trouble to fix it than to leave it alone (it would require skin grafts and scarring).

3 Months-6 Months 02/10/01 - Spekky slept through the night for the first time. From 11pm to 7am without waking up.  When he woke up, he was oohing and gooing and smiling up at Mommy and Daddy. 02/11/01 - Daddy attempted to give Spekky a haircut.  Poor Spekky... 02/12/01 - Spekky went to the beach for the second time (first time out of the belly) with Mommy and Aunt Aimee Dunn.  He was sooo happy soaking in the sun and basking in the breeze.  Don't worry-- Mommy made sure he was protected from the big bad sun.   02/20/01 - Ben (Daddy's barber from Ray's Men's Styling) fixed Daddy's attempt at Spekky's haircut. Now he's stylin'! 02/26/01 - Spekky's first tooth is sloooowwwwly starting to show. He's really enjoying the COLD teethers and ice cubes.  He's pulling himself up using our thumbs for support.  He can sit up on his own for a short while. He also answers to his name now.  We call him by name (Spekky and Spencer) and he turns, but when we use another name, he doesn't acknowledge it.  03/04/01 - Guess who just rolled over from his tummy to his back all by himself?  We are so very proud of our baby boy! 03/06/01 - We took Spekky to the doctor for his 4 month check-up today.  He is 24" long and weighs 14 lbs. 9 oz.  He got four vaccinations, including DPT, polio, Hib, and Prevnar (pneumoccocal). 03/12/01 - We decided that Spekky is ready to sleep in his own room now.  Mommy and Daddy's room looks so empty... 03/13/01 - For his first time eating solid food, Spekky wasn't too messy.  He had a few spoonfuls of rice cereal and is starting to get a hang of this new part of the daily routine. 03/14/01 - Spekky is doing great in his room!  He slept 10 hours last night, from 10 PM until 8AM!   03/23/01 - Guess who ate yummy peas for the very first time?  Just a little bit, but hey, it's a start! 03/30/01 - Little Spekky is mad about carrots!  He tried them for the first time today, and he ate the WHOLE JAR!!! 04/06/01 - YAY!  Spekky is a big enough boy that he can sit in the high chair now!!!  It's a whole new world for him from now on when we go out to eat!   04/16/01 - We're so sad.  Spekky got his first cold ever--runny nose, cough, fever, and lots of fussiness.  And Mommy, Tia, and Bethany are all sick, too.  We took him to the doctor and he weighs 15 lbs. 9 oz. and is 25 and 1/4" long. 05/02/01 - Spekky flipped from his back to his belly today!  YAY!!! 05/06/01 - Can you believe that Spekky is 6 months old already? To celebrate, we bought him a special floaty with a canopy for his first time ever in the pool!  It was a little cold at first, but he loved it!  We had a great time!

6 Months- 9 Months 05/07/01 - At his 6 month check-up, Spencer weighed in at 16 lbs. 1 oz. and is 25 and 3/4" long.  He got his DPT, Hib, and Prevnar shots today and was a very brave boy. 05/14/01 - Spencer surprised us tonight by rolling over a few times!  He was having a lot of fun rolling and "talking" to his stuffed animal friends. 05/26/01 - It's here!  A little tooth is making its way out of Spekky's gums!  It's just a little tooth bud on the bottom right.  That gummy grin won't be all gummy for much longer..... 6/13/01 -Spencer is starting to crawl... kinda'. He wiggles like a worm to move forward.  Shouldn't be long now. Also his second tooth is coming in. Now he has two bottom teeth poking through the gums.  6/16/01 -Spekky got his third official (non-Daddy) haircut.  We took pictures and hope to have them up soon. 6/21/01 -Spekky is doing 'the frog' as he attempts to move around on his own.  He's not quite crawling, but can get to where he wants to be quickly.  He's also able to walk to where he wants to be in his walker...usually it's somewhere he's not supposed to be. 07/20/01 - Haircut #4 for Spekky today.  We took some hilarious pictures of him, too.  Look for them soon! 07/21/01 - Spencer is crawling more on his knees, and bats is mouth with the back of his hand.  So we're hearing lots of, "ba, ba, ba, ba..."  Those 2 bottom teeth are fully visible now....waiting on the top teeth to start appearing.  Also, Spekky LOVES to walk as you hold his hands--he can go for a good half an hour just making his way through the house! 07/26/01 - Our boy is growing up so fast!  Tonight, he pulled up to stand in his crib and just stood there crying.  He knows what he's capable of and wants to get out!  Awww...Spencer can also sit up from either laying on his back or from being on all fours.  Sometimes, he just sits up without even using his arms to push off of.  Talk about strong abs! 07/27/01 - Spencer is so strong and learning so quickly!  He's crawling more on his knees now, and he's standing in the playpen, cruising around it while he watches TV. 07/30/01 - Spencer decided to help us out while we were changing him.  He took his shirt off... after we got his arms out of his sleeves.  Our big boy pulls his shirt off over his head. He likes to be in his "birthday suit" best of all! 08/05/01 - No more of Mommy brushing baby's teeth.  Spekky wants to hold the toothbrush and do it all on his own.  He's learning. He's also giving out "high-fives" now.  Yeah!

9 months - 1 year 08/07/01 - Our boy had his 9 month check-up today.  He is 28" tall and I know he weighs more than 19 lbs. but the nurse was rather hasty at weighing him today, so I don't think she even looked at how many oz. he was.  Either way, he's growing healthy and strong!  He got another Hepatitis B shot, which made us sad for Spekky because at our last visit, we were told he was done with those and today would be shot free.  Spekky was brave about it, though.   08/09/01 -Spencer is now picking up Cheerios and using his thumb and index finger (pincer grip) and is learning to feed himself.  08/12/01 -He did it... Spencer made daddy so proud when he went up to the receiver and cranked up the volume...made mommy mad, though. 09/09/01 - Spencer is saying "Mama". And he knows who it is! 09/14/01 - What a big boy Spencer is!  He got his 5th "big boy" haircut yesterday, and today he fed himself a few times with his fork!  YAY baby Spekky! 09/15/01 -While standing in the playpen, Spencer took HIS FIRST STEP!!! He let go of one side, took a full step and then grabbed the other side.  It should be any day now... 09/16/01 -Mommy and Spencer went to the park today.  He was just ecstatic on the monkey bars.  I can see he's going to love being outside.  09/17/01 - We went back to the park and for the first time Spekky went down the slide.  Wow what a rush! 09/24/01 -It's amazing how fast they grow. I went to work this morning and left Spencer with two teeth. When I get home, he had four!  A tooth on top broke through and also a third tooth on the bottom.  More pictures of this soon... 09/26/01 - Yay! Spencer took three steps in a row today! He first took two steps, paused, then took another before dropping to his knees and crawling.  In fact, not too long after that, I caught him taking two steps on tape.  10/05/01 - We were amazed to follow Spencer as he climbed up the stairs at Ba and Dada's house.  We have to stay close behind him, but he is a quick climber when he's got something he wants at the top waiting for him! 10/12/01 - Spencer took 6 steps in a row today. He walked a good four feet! 10/13/01 - Spencer walked about 6 feet today. It should be any day now that he's running us around the house... 10/17/01 - Finally our boy is clapping in excitement!  Now he keeps on clapping when we ask him to!  YAY! 11/02/01 - Spencer is walking further and further away on his own.  He is so confident! 11/06/01 - Happy Birthday to our boy! We had a small get together to celebrate with family.  Spencer got lots of toys and gifts, and he got to try his first piece of cake ever.  It was quite yummy! 11/10/01 "I had my party today!!! I had sooo much fun and saw sooo many people.  We should do this every year!"
