Welcome to the W4JPL/John Paul Lloyd  Web Page

Welcome to my web page! My name is John Paul Lloyd. W4JPL is my Amateur (Ham) Radio callsign. I have been a licensed ham radio operator since 1978. My previous call was KA2EZN. I hold an Amateur Extra Class license, and I am active on HF, VHF, and UHF in all modes.

I am also very active with writing and recording music. For more info, please scroll further down.
My music is currently available on www.soundclick.com

Here are some pic's of my ham radio shack:

<>
I have a LOT of stuff in storage, but this is what I currently am using:
HF:  Icom IC751A
6M: Icom IC756
2M SSB/432/440 FM/SSB Icom IC 910H
2M: Alinco DR135

The W4JPL 10 meter Beacon
I currently have a beacon running on 28.263.5.
The beacon consists of a MFJ keyer, in loop mode, and a converted Lafayette HB640 rig.
The Lafayette has the PLL02A board in it. These rigs are very easy to convert from the CB band to
10 meters. Simply change out one crystal, retune, and you're done! The crystal that I used was actually from an old crystal 2 meter rig. The crystal runs in the 12 mhz range.  I've converted several rigs over the years, and with a little care, you end up with a nice transceiver, with a clean output.
I'll be posting pics shortly.

Here also are a couple of pics of the yard, antenna farm, and my somewhat  stupid dog...

Here's a new updated pic of what's "on the pole". Thanks to KG2MY for getting that tribander on the thing...

That's a Cushcraft A3 tribander, followed by a homebrew 5 element 6 meter beam, and on the top is a Hustler G7 2 meter vertical.

Other interests include writing and playing music, trains, and astronomy.

                             WORK INTERESTS

I am in the flat glass and stone industry.
I currently am President of the JPL Industrial Machinery Company; and I am also Tool Product Manager for Z. Bavelloni.

I have been in the industry for almost 25 years, and had worked my way from the "ground" up. I began early in my working life by operating industrial machinery, and eventually graduated to repairing machines, which led to the eventual position of selling machinery  Every one has a "gift" or special talent. I consider myself lucky to have 3; one with industrial machines ("If I can't fix it, it hasn't been invented yet") the second being music, and the third is electronics/ham radio.

I also have a book available, for the flat glass industry, entitled "The Glass Fabrication  Machinery Handbook", along with reprints of several (14 so far) industry articles available. If interested, please contact me.

                 MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC!

I am a somewhat accomplished musician. I write my own music, and play several instruments. I own a 16 track digital recorder (Fostex), which I use to put my music on CD's and the internet. I am currently using the following instruments for my recording:

Guitars            Fender Stratocaster
                         Fender Stratocoustic
                        Epiphone Les Paul
                        Gibson Les Paul Studio
                        Dan Electro U2

                        Yamaha 12 String Acoustic
                        Martin Backpacker
Bass               Yamaha bass
Keyboards:     Roland JV-80
                        Yamaha PSR-180
Synth:              EMU Vintage Keys
                         Roland JV-880
Drums:            Pearl Export Series
Autoharp:        Schmidt Autoharp

I play all of the instruments. Occasionally, I use my son Ken on drums, and my other son Paul on guitar.

The genre of my music can be hard to define; I write straight out rock tunes, I also do some very progressive (AKA early King Crimson/Yes/Genesis) tunes, as well as some Christian tunes. I write based on experience and what mood I'm in.This is a true "labor of love" as one 5 minute tune can take up to 8 hours to record and master.

I'm always (so it seems) writing and recording original music.

My music can be listened to or downloaded (free!!) at     www.soundclick.com
(this link does not seem to work: to get to my musich online, go to this website:

I have 7 CD's free for the asking:

John Paul Lloyd: 1st album
Silent Fire
Three
EGAD!

Tunes for Jesus 2003
Tunes for Jesus 2004
Tunes for Jesus 2005 EP#1

The first two CD's were recorded using a Yamaha MD-4 minidisk machine, nowadays I'm using a  Fostex V F-16

I have many new songs that I am in the process of recording at this moment. These will be included on the CD's "Tunes for Jesus 2005", and John Paul Lloyd "IV". (working title)
I hope to get the majority of these tunes finished at the end of 2005.

It's a Life!

I am currently living in Liberty, NC with my wife, Rosemary, and our three children, Paul, Cheryl, and Kenny. I am originally from Philadelphia, PA, but I spent most of my adulthood in Southern New Jersey.

I've been married 27 (!) years now, and at this moment it looks like I'll probably spend the remainder of my years in North Carolina.

Eventually I'll be putting up pictures of me playing, and the family.
