Introduction

My old black footlocker is just like me, i.e., has many miles on it, well worn, scraped, battered, weakened ... and always in need of a dusting off to look presentable. It's a small trunk you would find in the attic of a spooky and haunted old house ... and most likely something to throw out during Spring cleaning.  If it wasn't so durable, I would have tossed it long ago.

I've had this old U.S. Government Issue (G. I.) footlocker since 1953, and back then it was at least ten years old. That means it's at least 60 years old -- and now one of my most prized possessions.  My old footlocker was originally painted G. I. olive drab, and when I finally hung up my uniform in 1973 I painted it black ... you know, to give it a "classy" look.  In my younger days in the military,  whatever I had that didn't fit in my duffel or B-4 bags were stored in this trusty old footlocker.  Unlike many material things I've had, this old footlocker never let me down.  I like the very few people and "things" in my life that are durable, trustworthy, and never let me down.  Since 1976 I have used this old footlocker to stash information that I've accumulated on myself, my family, and my family's genealogy.

As you browse through this old footlocker you'll learn a lot about me, my family, and my Scottish and Anglo-Saxon ancestors.  One of the first things you'll unearth is that I'm grateful to be still be alive -- and that only through the blessed accident of birth (I'm sure our Lord had a part in it) I was "lucky" to be born in the United States of America and in Brooklyn, New York City.

I am also grateful to be a U. S. citizen, a military retiree who proudly served his country, and a descendant so many immigrant ancestors -- ancestors that helped establish, populate, develop, and maintain this great Nation of ours.  Moreover, you'll find that I'm especially proud of my Pre-Colonial, Colonial, Antebellum, and Southern heritage -- which I never knew I had until I became addicted to finding my genealogy.  It became a true "labor of love" for me to search for and learn of my pioneer ancestors.  By learning what they went through, it causes me to continually stir my imagination about the old times and locations they pioneered.  It's all so awesome to me.

Please go right ahead and browse -- and if you think we're related please contact me. I'd like nothing better than to add and share our family's information to what I've collected in this old black footlocker.

While digging around in my old footlocker, you'll find a lot of other family surnames that link to my bloodline.  I've compiled quite a few over these years, so check it out.  Who knows, if you have roots in North Carolina, South Carolina, and/or "Beulahland" and/or "Wiregrass" Georgia you could be related to me  -- and be a close or distant cousin, cousin-in-law, ... or somethin' else, whatever.

Oh yes, you may find it interesting to know that I'm working on a project for the people with family links in Bryan County, Georgia.  I'm compiling a list of the known pioneers who originally settled that wild and pristine forest area that eventually became Bryan County, Georgia ... years before and soon after our American Revolutionary War, i.e., circa 1733-1833.  This has turned out to be another labor of love, since I've discovered that one way or another, I'm related to quite a number of these courageous Southern pioneers.  As time permits I'll keep adding to and updating this list -- so ya'll come back and check out what's been added and/or updated.
