As an introduction, let me welcome you to the World Wide Web home of the Hartz Puppetry Workshop. I have been building a variety of puppets since 1975 and have developed a reputation as one of the finest makers of quality hand puppets, marionette's, and ventriloquial figures. When you purchase a Hartz figure, you are not investing in an experiment. Repair Service.......We repair most any kind of ventriloquist figure or puppet.
Parts Service .......We sell bodies, hands, and feet carved from basswood.
Wigs...........We handcut wigs for our figures and re-wig other figures. Also... we can supply specialty wigs such as Cleopatra and fright wigs, etc.
Clown Service.......Our workshop has always had a special service for clown entertainers: We duplicate your clown face on your existing figure or a new one (depending on figure's composition). My training with Ringling Bros. Circus still serves me well.

All of my puppets are hand carved from basswood, the traditional material for making quality puppets and figures. Being completely hand made by me there are no two exactly alike. I use brass mechanics for quiet, smooth, and trouble free movement. The paint is quality artist medium and is blended in and not painted on.

Bodies are sturdy and light weight wood frames and have a natural shape so the clothing you select will fit naturally.

I offer a cast of characters or will work with you to develop your dream partner.

The Mandarin Head In The Box pictured on the right is an example of the quality novelty type figures which I have produced. You can see in this photo the attention to detail in the carving and the beautiful finish and cabinetry which goes with the quality of the figure. Again, I use only quality woods in making my novelties. They are not a quick and easy way to make a dollar, but something I can point to with pride as an example of my work. My novelties are only limited by your imagination.

At left is a copy of the famous Charlie McCarthy which was crafted in my shop and at right a copy of the famous Howdy Doody that I made myself as a Christmas present.
