The benefits of therapeutic canine massage as a part
of a veterinarian-advised health care plan for your pet-
• Reduces muscle tension, allowing for increased
flexibility and range of motion
• Optimizes recovery from surgery and injury
• Increases blood flow to muscles, which removes metabolic waste products and
promotes healthy tissue
• Increases ease and comfort, reduces stress and promotes relaxation
What type
of dogs benefit from therapeutic canine massage?
• Dogs suffering from joint related problems such
as hip dysplasia and arthritis
• Dogs which through disease or advanced age, suffer from muscle wasting or
muscle atrophy
• Dogs whose pregnancy is placing strain on the back
• Dogs recovering from orthopedic surgery, and that are OK'd by their doctor to
start physical therapy
• Conformation dogs- for increased range of motion (reach and drive)
• Performance dogs (i.e.- Obedience, Agility, Hunting, Police, etc.), like human
athletes, respond well to massage therapy as a routine part of their
conditioning program, as well as to pre- and post- event massages
• Working dogs - dogs that work in harness (guide dogs, mobility dogs, etc) have
issues unique to their service
• ANY dog! Don't YOU love massages?! So does your dog!
What Elizabeth's clients have to say...
"As of the evening of the 2002 DPCA Top 20 Obedience event, my red male "Bama," finalist U-UD Azar's The Crimson Tide UD, NA, NAJ, WAC, CGC (AKC ptd) was about to compete in his fifth performance event in as many days. I was concerned about muscle tightness due to the workload. Additionally, to help with a previous problem that made him look like he was sitting crooked, I asked Elizabeth to give Bama a pre-event massage. Finishing her work just minutes before we went into the ring, Bama gave a dynamite performance and went on to claim the honor of being the 2002 DPCA Top 20 Obedience Winner!” --Kim Tome
“At 10 years of age, my foundation bitch CH Horizon’s No Mo Foolin’ WAC, TDI, CGC would exhibit an “old lady’s gitch in her gait” at trotting speed. Years earlier, Elizabeth helped to handle “Kali” to two of her majors and her championship. Forevermore interested in Kali’s well-being, Elizabeth warmed Kali up for her class with a pre-event massage. It was amazing-- once she stepped into the ring, Kali moved with the grace of her youth to win the 2002 Host Club’s Veteran’s Bitch class! Thank you, Elizabeth!” --Nancy Raffa-Sodel, Kaliber Dobermans
“Elizabeth’s amazing talent… Sending a public thank you to Elizabeth Barrett for her excellent massage therapy that she did on my Chow this weekend. We ran two runs on Thursday and one run on Friday and knocked a total of approximately 12 bars. I had Elizabeth give “Allegro” a massage before his Excellent JWW run and he didn't knock one bar, but was overtime by two seconds too many. Saturday morning, he ran his Standard run with no knocked bars and a perfect score to be the first Chow ever in history to every receive an AX title. He then went on to his JWW run with again no knocked bars… I can't believe the difference that it made.” --DobeAgility list post by Amy Young, owner/handler of DPCA Top 20 Agility Finalist MACH “Dante” CDX, WAC
