ROCK CLIMBING

We offer three different levels of climbing. For anyone that has not climbed before and are interested in trying it out for the first time we offer top rope climbing. It's safe, fun and it can give nearly anyone the opportunity to try climbing without the risk of injury. It's also good if you are would like to practice your climbing skills and increase your strength. For the more advanced climbers we offer lead climbing classes and trips that can specialize in either sport or traditional climbing. Both of these types of climbing require previous experience so that the risk of injury is reduced.

Top Rope

Top rope climbing is designed to allow the climber to climb without the risk of falling. A rope is set up at the top of the climb before the climber leaves the ground. One end of the rope is attached to the climber at the bottom of the climb. The rope then passes through the anchor at the top and then back down to the ground were the belayer takes in any slack. The belayer is the person that watches the climber and makes sure that if they fall that the rope will catch them. Our course teaches the basics of climbing starting with equipment, safety and climbing techniques. After the basic instructions are over we allow you to climb while being belayed by one of our guides.

Cost: $50.00 per person for the introductory class.

Sport

Sport climbing has a higher risk of injury because unlike top rope climbing you must clip into bolts that are set into the rock. Each time you climb above the clipped bolt you risk falling past that point if you slip. Sport climbing is fun because with only a little gear you can climb nearly any route that has been bolted without having to set up a top rope. It's also more challenging because there is the risk of falling which means you really have to practice safe climbing skills.

Cost: $100.00 per person for the introductory class.

Traditional

Traditional climbing or "Trad" climbing is the next step in leaning to climb. It is based upon the same principles as sport climbing except there are no pre set bolts to clip into. You must place specialized gear in the rock as you climb in order to protect your self in case of a fall. Trad climbing is more difficult because you must not only be able to climb but you must be able to place the specialized equipment into the rock while you climb. Placing gear is a skill that takes much practice to become proficient.

Cost: $150.00 per person for the introductory class.
